Definition/short description

Youtube is a website that allows members to view, share and upload videos.

Youtube was founded on February 15th 2005 by three former PayPal employees; Steve Chen, Chad Hurley and Jawed Karim. Headquarters for Youtube is located in San Bruno, California, US. Youtube, a non-profit organisation, was bought by Google on October 9th 2006. Youtube's videos are appeared on blogs and websites all over the internet. Youtube has also introduced Youtube news. With Youtube news members or visitors can view videos about the latest news of the world.

The relevance for eGovernment

With Youtube Government officials can post public messages on the site to reach their audiences. Debates, news briefings on war, executions, finance, crime, drugs have all featured on Youtube news. This is also relevant when trying to reach the younger generation.
