Definition/short description
Social integration can be defined as the process of linking individuals through the use of activities which enable communication, development and skills neccesary to function in a given society.
In depth
The idea of social integration is a relatively touchy subject depending on who it is presented to. Some see social integration as a process that enables an individual to function in a society, others may consider social integration as making the individual efficient from a macro standpoint. However, social integration tends to focus on making individuals part of a larger society where they invoke a purpose. This could lead to economic development and cultural diversity. This process can be seen as transmitting knowledge to migrants, stateless people or displaced persons who are being introduced to a different social setting. This process is deemed necessary for successful interaction within a society, through acquiring linguistic skills and understanding cultural norms and values. Interaction in society contributes to civil society by creating and introducing methods of managing the population.
Implementation of social integration will vary per case, their will be different methods used for instance, in the case of a stateless person and a migrant. This can also been seen as cultural assimilation.
The relevance of Social integration for Migration and/or Migration Policy
This section sets out to draw a relationship between social integration and policy making. In recent years there has been an increase in the movement of illegal migrants, this has prompted the government to respond by setting guidelines and restrictions on the sorts of migrants a country will accept. This has contributed the policy making framework in a number of ways. The European Union has introduced initiatives to handle the large amounts of migrants coming from developing countries, these initiatives are done in cooperation with institutions responsible for the integration process within their borders. The E.U. has managed to set up Border controls that makes it possible to have a system which monitors the flow of migrants traveling from one area to another, this agreement can be seen as a cooperative agreement between the individual E.U. member states to have general guideline in regards to entry, stay and asylum. This policy is known as the Schengen area and cooperation act. Although this agreement is not universally accepted within all E.U. member states, it is becoming more evident that migration has to be managed, as we see more goverments and organizations introducing new policies to do so.
| Example: Natural Disasters

| Family and individuals as migrant who moves to other countries because of natural disasters impact on different communities around the world for instance flooding, earthquakes, tornados or hurricanes this natural disasters causes people to leave there homeland so they would be able to survive a better life and living condition in another country. This would help them to be more at ease and won’t have to worry about survival. As a resident of that community they would adapt to the life style and social ethnics.

| Other example are government matters and issues towards the communities and the people best interest but because of the form of the government and the way they handle matter which they may think it good for there country or island the people think its not in the interest of them, but only for governmental benefits. Terrorism is another form why people decides to live there country and have to be come social integrative in another country community because of bombing in there homeland. For instance Iraq, the people from there who can afford to live and build a better future for themselves in another society by involving their self in an active community by becoming a citizen or being employed in that country.
