Definition/short description
The term Identity fraud refers to all types of crime in which a person wrongfully obtains and uses someone's personal data in some way that involves fraud of deception, typically for economic gain.
In depth
Identity fraud knows many aspects. The most common form of identity theft is credit card fraud, and passport fraud. The term identity fraud can be sub-divided into four categories: Finacial Identity Theft, Criminal Identity Theft, Identity cloning and Business/Commercial Identity fraud. In the next box these catagories will be elaborated on. The reason why people fraud with identities is to facilitate crimes. [1]

Nowadays, many services our governments provides us, are available through a digital way. It is now possible to do your tax decleration electronically, or you can request for a copy of the municipal personal records database. Various governmental bodies provide their services through a digitally version. And a lot of local authorities use this sort of programmes as well. In order to do these actions in a safe way, governments created a digital-id. With the help of this digital-id, the government can make sure if you are, who you claim to be. When you go to the municipality you should be able to identify yourself by showing a passport or a drivers license. In this electronical world of providing services, indentity fraud also plays a role. Although it is more difficult to fraud with a digital-id, than it is for frauding with credit-cards or id-cards, frauding digitally is still an issue. If you abuse a persons' records you can easily register for a digital-id. [2] [3]
