How to select a page you want to work on from a list
The wikipage of an educational module may contain lists of topics for students to describe on a page in this wiki. When such a list contains red links to so-called 'wanted pages', this help page provides IPM students with a quick guide to choosing a topic and setting up their page. Make sure you load the right elements onto your page, as different page types are required to have different sections, and each section type has its own criteria and help information embedded. Select a topic of your choice by clicking on the red word in the list. Such a red wikilink actually directs you to the edit tab of a non-existent page with the title you just clicked on. Any change to this page which you save is recorded along with your user name, making you the first editor of this new page.
Keep in mind that the first edit of a wanted page is in some respects different from later edits. For one, you get a different edit screen for a non-existent page, with special buttons allowing you to 'preload' all kinds of standard layout, headers, categorization etc. corresponding to the type of page you want to make, and to the kind of assignment you were given as a student. You do not get this opportunity after having preformed the 'firstedit', so take care to use these preload buttons wisely!

The edit screen
When editing a new article from a red link, you will see the following screen:
|
You've followed a link to a page that does not exist yet. To create the page, use one of the inputboxes below or start typing in the WYSIWYG edit field below (see the help page for more info).
To set up this page in a predetermined format use the appropriate inputbox below. These inputboxes correspond to specific page types and/or educational assignments in this wiki, and guarantee the proper layout and - even more importantly - the necessary categorization of your new page. Check whether the title shown in the input field is the one you want, including necessary namespace prefixes (such as 'Draft:' or 'Portal:') when not adding articles to the main (encylopedic) namespace.

The preload button(s)
| IPMProject 1.3 students (2008) should always use the 'New IPM encyclopedia page' button, next to the The Hague University logo. |
Saving your page
You may want to preview the page before you save (using the preview button at the bottom of the page, below the edit field), but heed the warning: This is only a preview; changes have not yet been saved! In order to save click the Save page button at the bottom of the page, below the edit field. Please note:
- When you plan to work on a page for a while (and you should if you got an IPM assignment!), you can keep track of changes other people make to this page and any remarks posted on its discussion-tab (!) by checking the box 'Watch this page'. This adds this page to your 'watchlist', which also includes your user (talk) page, and will generate a popup notice, or even emails if you like, each time you log in after someone else has made changes to it.
- When having done a minor edit, such as correcting a typing/spelling error, or cleaning up layout details, check the box marked 'This is a minor edit'. This will allow lists of page edits to exclude this change, eg. for grading purposed.

Further editing
By clicking the edit-tab above the page you get access to the edit screen where you may change or add the content of the wikipage. Remember: it is useful to preview your changes, but do not forget to save! See the Support main page for further help on editing.
