Definition/short description

E-mail is a way of sending messages through electronic means. Messages can be sent , and saved through this means, and it is seen as the fastest way of sending messeges globally.

In depth

E-mail, or electronic mail as it is also known is mostly used to send messages from one place to another. It is seen as the fastest way of sending messages all over the world. E-mail and the sending of messages of has been critisized by many because of some negativities surrounding it. One of such is internet fraud. This is a major weakness in electronic mail, and due to this, the privacy that comes with Email has been threatened. Also, it tends to affect security because it has been argued that it is the best way for terrorists to get messages across to themselves. Spamming is also seen as a major threat to the use of E-mail worldwide. In this case, E-mail addresses are collected illegally worldwide by these so called 'spammers', and junk messages are sent into these E-mail addresses. Examples of such mails are those that try to sell sych things as viagra online.

The relevance for eGovernment

E-mail and eGovernment, are related in so many ways, because just like the use of mobile phones, it is also a very good way to get business done fast. information also moves faster when it comes to issues concerning decision making. E-mail is also very important for data keeping and updating. Such things as social security numbers are saved, and information concerning these are usually passed through emails.
