Because of soft policies in these countries in immigration these migrants settled here and in response they worked for these countries and payed their roles to make them multicultural. After World War II, Australia launched a massive immigration programme, believing that having narrowly avoided a Japanese invasion, Australia must "populate or perish." Hundreds of thousands of displaced Europeans migrated to Australia and over 1,000,000 British Subjects immigrated under the Assisted Migration Scheme, colloquially known as Ten Pound Poms. The qualifications were straightforward: if you were of European ancestry, reasonably healthy, and without a criminal record, you would be accepted in Australia. In 1954, the 50,000th Dutch migrant Maria Scholte arrived. The development of the culture of the United States of America which consists of music, cinema, dance, architecture, literature, poetry, cuisine and the visual arts has been marked by a tension between two strong sources of inspiration: European sophistication and domestic originality. So in the multiculturalism of America there are the effects of European culture as well as African culture due to mixing of people from all the parts of the world. But we know that there was a time in America when the white people of America did not accept the people from Africa that they were equal to them; at that time there was racism but after a long civil movement, a time came when Americans had to accept the people coming from all parts of the world as equal and now they're are the people with so many different ideas, cultures, religions, norms and values making America a multicultural society
